MaiJazz: KHMER – Nils Petter Molvær

In 1998, a groundbreaking album was released in Norway. Nils Petter Molvær’s legendary “Khmer” established his position as one of the leading voices in the new European jazz movement of the nineties.

On the album, massive beats and pulsating grooves come together to support Molvær’s atmospheric trumpet solos. The finished project forms a bridge between the typical soundscapes known from artists on the ECM record label and the then-bold new world of trip-hop, drum’n’bass, ambient, techno, industrial, electronica, and samples.

“Khmer” became a success, selling 250,000 copies worldwide. Molvær’s music extends through time and space, submitting to the latest technology of the moment to provide us with ever-new expressions. Celebrating this gem in Norwegian jazz history is not something you’ll want to miss!
