Welcome to an evening dedicated to the film music of Oscar-winning composer James Horner.

Some melodies stay with you forever. The music of James Horner (1953–2015) has done just that – in cinemas, in living rooms, and in concert halls around the world. From the sweeping themes of Braveheart and Avatar to the intense moments of Aliens and Titanic, his compositions have mastered the art of heightening drama and stirring emotion.

With ten Oscar nominations and two Academy Awards for his iconic score to Titanic, Horner was one of Hollywood’s most influential film composers.

Stavanger Symphony Orchestra has a particularly special connection to Horner. Exactly ten years ago, in the spring of 2015, he stood on the podium in Fartein Valen Hall to conduct his own music. Just one month later, he tragically died in a plane crash. This September, we return to his scores, and together with conductor Torodd Wigum, we invite you to an evening celebrating one of the greatest voices in film music history.
