US KAMMER MED ISABELLE VAN KEULEN

At this concert, we get to meet the Youth Symphony’s chamber orchestra venture US Kammer, led by the outstanding violinist Isabelle van Keulen. The soloist in Haydn’s Cello Concerto No. 2 is Marcus Michelin, winner of the US soloist competition in November. The concerto is one of the most played for cello, and with Marcus’ beautiful and virtuosic playing, this will be a party!
In addition to Haydn, the concert offers two phenomenal works from the 20th century, both of which look back on history. Ravel’s Le tombeau de Couperin was written in memory of friends of Ravel who died in the First World War (tombeau = tombstone). The form and movement titles are inspired by French Baroque and François Couperin, hence the name. Although the theme is heavy, the music is surprisingly light and playful.
