Stavanger Internasjonale Pianofestival: Håvard Gimse

Stavanger International Piano Festival presents star pianist Håvard Gimse this Saturday.

One of Norway’s leading musicians, Gimse has an extensive, versatile repertoire and is in demand as a soloist and chamber musician. Top Scandinavian classical artists often choose him as an accompanist. After earning his diploma under Hans Leygraf in Berlin in 1995, he continued his studies with Jiri Hlinka in Norway. Gimse has won numerous prestigious awards, including the Steinway Prize, Grieg Prize, and Sibelius Prize.

Known for his dedication to Scandinavian and Norwegian classical music, Gimse has received high praise and awards from Diapason and Gramophone Critics’ Choice for promoting lesser-known works. He has toured widely, performing with leading Scandinavian and international orchestras, including the Stockholm Philharmonic, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, and Tokyo Symphony.

Gimse has played in esteemed venues worldwide, including Wigmore Hall, Carnegie Hall, and Concertgebouw, and collaborated extensively with musicians like Truls Mørk and Tine Thing Helseth. He is a professor at the Norwegian Academy of Music and regularly conducts masterclasses.
