Join us when Maijazz 2020 invites you to the celebration of one of jazz and popular music’s great icons: Joni Mitchell.

In 2018, the Canadian composer and singer Joni Mitchell celebrated her 75th birthday. The same year marked 50 years since her first record release and since then she has remained one of the most important artists of popular music. Her influence also goes deep into the jazz she embraced, collaborating with such icons as Jaco Pastorius, Wayne Shorter, Pat Metheny, Charlie Haden and Herbie Hancock.

When Oslo Jazz Festival planned the Joni-celebration, Anja Lauvdal, an aspiring musician from Flekkefjord, was asked to put together an ensemble for a tribute concert. It was a huge success with two sold-out halls in the Opera House. The success continued at both Night Jazz in Bergen and the Kongsberg Jazz Festival, all with sold-out concerts! Now Anja Lauvdal comes to Maijazz with a bouquet of leading young Norwegian musicians to give Joni Mitchell the honour she deserves.
