A Musical Monologue for an Actor and a Jazz Trio

Driving Miles is a play written by Henning Mankell, taking us to a Norwegian town on the Northwest coast with its own jazz festival.

Here we meet a fictional character, played by Per Egil Aske, who moves through a universe filled with real historical figures – both living and dead. Among them are the legendary jazz trumpeter Miles Davis (1926–1991), a driver from the festival staff, a jazz-enthusiastic scrap dealer, and a cuckoo clock from Montreux.

Through music, memories, and stories, a tribute is created to jazz, its masters, and its eternal power. The performance explores how music and stories live on – as long as someone plays, listens, and tells them.

Driving Miles had its world premiere at Moldejazz in 2010 and has since been performed at the Oslo Jazz Festival, Teatret Vårt, and Oslo Nye Teater.
