The Stavanger Symphony Orchestra

One of the most successful orchestras in Scandinavia

The Concert Hall is the permanent home of the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra (SSO), our main customer, and all the day-to-day work of the orchestra takes place here. The SSO consists of 85 musicians from 23 nationalities and 14 members of the administration. Latvian Andris Poga is the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra’s new chief conductor from the 2021/22 season. Poga takes over from Christian Vasquez who was chief conductor for SSO from 2013 to 2019.

In recent years it has achieved major artistic development and attracted an ever greater following, both inside and outside Norway.

The orchestra’s rehearsals and concerts take place in Fartein Valen, which, with its world-class acoustics, has been tailored to match the orchestra’s size and repertoire. Backstage there are various rehearsal and practice rooms for the SSO. The orchestra is in a period of great artistic growth and the audience numbers are growing accordingly.
